31 Days of March: Art Journaling Your Bible Study: WHAT MATERIALS YOU NEED!

Hello friends!
I am so excited to get to share with you more about our March ART JOURNALING YOUR BIBLE STUDY event here at the Inspired Stamps blog!

WHAT IS AN ART JOURNAL?
We (you and me, and our other friends who visit the blog) will be creating an Art Journal. For some of you it will be your FIRST Art Journal and for some the FIRST Art Journal you actually FINISH!  To keep an art journal simply means that instead of it just being words you use, as in a typical journal, you will express some of what you want to say artistically!  You do not need to be an artist, just someone who enjoys the process.  So you will be doing some artsy stuff in your journal, and how much artsy stuff is COMPLETELY UP TO YOU!

HOW WILL WE ART JOURNAL OUR BIBLE STUDY?
1.  First of all, you will decide what you want this to be.  This is the most important decision you'll make now, before you start.  I am going to make this a MARCH BIBLE STUDY Art Journal, where I will simply take what I'm studying in the Bible that day and incorporate it into my art journal. I am taking one bible study on 2Peter...so some days there will be pages devoted to that.  I lead a bible study on 2 Timothy, so there will be some days devoted to that.  I attend a church where we are blessed by a preacher who preaches straight from the Bible, so some days I'll use that.  I also attend a home group where we read through books of the bible, and sometimes I will include that.  I am personally spending quiet time (some would call this daily devotional time) in Psalm 119, so sometimes it will end up in my art journal!
SOME OTHER OPTIONS:
--you can make this entire journal about one book of the bible or a bible study you are currently taking
--you can make this entire journal about your daily devotions or your pastor's sermon this month
--you can mix it up further, based on your time in the Bible and what that looks like for you
(IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO START, I encourage you to choose a psalm (maybe join me in Psalm 119) or a gospel (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John).  The important point of all this is that we ARE in the Bible, studying God's Word ourselves!

2.  I will always have 3 parts to my journal pages.  1--there will always be Scripture written, stamped, or typed out exactly as it appears in my Bible.  2--there will always be OBSERVATIONS I can take based strictly on what the passage says, in its context (I'll be explaining this as I go in my posts so don't worry about this now) 3--There will be take-aways, reflections, or thoughts about applying what it says (again, I'll get into the how this looks in my posts).

3.  There will be art.  Hence, it's an art journal :o)

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COST ME TO DO?  WHAT DO I NEED?
Regardless of your budget for this, I want you to join me! The only thing you NEED is your bible (or online you can go to www.biblegateway.com or www.blueletterbible.org  or another online free Bible program to look at).  So that's free.  AND you need paper and a pencil or pen.  THAT'S ALL YOU NEED plus the time you will set aside to work in your art journal.  You can always add things from what you have on hand at home if as you go you want to use more materials. I like the composition books (shown below with a printed BIBLE STUDY JOURNAL paper over the front)

So basically, (and even the crayons and colored pencils are optional) you can use just the BASICS:

I will be showing some ways to use just these in some of my posts as well.

Adding onto that is a COLLAGE-FOCUSED Art Journal using scissors, glue stick, papers or magazines you can cut up along with your Sharpie Markers for writing.  I included the dylusions creative journal (5x8) that I'll be using for my 31 Days of March project:
The journal is my favorite and I used its large version when I shared the Scripture Memorizing pages I did a few months ago here on the blog.  I used collage, paint, and stamps in this one:
The 5x8 dylusions journal sells for $14.99 and looks like this:

As I said, I will use the composition book and pencil/pen in some of my posts in addition to the daily art journaling I do in this one.  I will use a variety of materials, and I encourage you to see what you have laying around your craft space as well.

At the request of several of you, I have put together a VERY LIMITED number of ART JOURNALING PACKS of supplies and was able to package them to give you 20% off what it would cost you to purchase these separately.  I will be using these supplies in much of my journal because I absolutely love them!  For those of you who are interested in purchasing these supplies, again remember they are very limited. Also, due to the shipping costs of the larger items I can only offer this to the US shipping addresses, and shipping will be Free for those of you who purchase either or both of these packs.  The first pack is the INK SPRAYS AND STENCIL PACK (you can see all of it in detail at the online store by clicking HERE)
The other pack is the ART JOURNAL AND INK PADS PACK (YOU CAN SEE ALL OF IT IN DETAIL AT THE ONLINE STORE BY CLICKING HERE):

I hope you are planning on joining us for this 31 Days of March: Art Journaling Your Bible Study adventure regardless of what materials you are going with.  It will be a blessing for all of us!

**Leave us a comment and let us know if you are planning on joining us!  We want to encourage you!  And please let your friends know so they can join us too...stampers and nonstampers alike!

  1. Gosh, I am so swamped right now but I'd really like to do this. I've been wanting to do something like this at our church and had designed a couple of pages….I imagine participating with you will give me the extra incentive I need to move forward, so, count me in :)
